One of the best ways to develop a habit is consistency and accountability. Especially when the going gets rough. Or you’re tired. Or the weather is nasty. Or you’d rather catch up on Game of Thrones.
I’ve found an early season bike challenge that sets me up for a great summer of cycling. It’s called 30 Days of Biking and it’s just like it sounds. Ride every day for 30 days in April.
Originated in Minneapolis / St Paul, Minnesota, what makes this a challenge is that midwestern weather in April is always fickle. It can be 70 degrees one day then snowing the next. But if you can make it the 30 days, all your excuses fall away for the gorgeous weather months.
Take the pledge to ride at 30daysofbiking.com then post your rides via twitter or FB using #30DoB. The challenge is spreading so keep your eye out for local group rides or start your own!
The rides don’t have to be long and if necessary then can be done indoors. Yes, spin bikes in a hotel gym count.
Remember, this is supposed to be a fun challenge so give yourself a break if really can’t spin your legs for a day. Just get back on the saddle.
The kickoff ride for the Twin Cities is April 1 leaving from The Commons (425 Portland Avenue S. Minneapolis, MN 55488), does a loop along the Mississippi River bikeways and ends at The Surly Brewery.
Fingers crossed for a nice day!
